Weekly Blog 12

Hello!

This weekend we’ve been busy brewing two beers for Pacific House. On Saturday, Paul, Dom and Kacper were brewing a house bitter for them – sadly not all brews go to plan so we’ll be busy brewing it again this Wednesday. Harry, Charlie and Jeanette had a more successful day on Sunday brewing the Pacific House Blonde. Both beers will be launching soon at Pacific House. Here’s them below with their lovely new t-shirts… Recipe design club have also been busy this week making two different Irish Red Ale prototypes – we can’t wait to try them!

The highlight of the week has to be our trip to Craft Beer Calling (which was AMAZING) on Thursday night. The committee went along and everyone was thrilled by the atmosphere. One highlight was the German beer chalet with it’s roaring log fires. It was definitely a night to remember.

Our cans have arrived! We are so excited about them. We’re going to be launching them at CentrAle between 3:30 & 6:30 this Friday. Centrale is tucked away in the train station but is a great bottle shop! We’ve also just sent off Malliot Blanc and our new ‘Non-Linear Regression’ off to can this week. Hopefully you’ll be able to get your hands on them mid to late November.

That’s all for this week!

Cheers,

The Stu Brew Team x

Hello!

We hope you enjoyed our Brewery Bash on Friday. A lot of you came down and it was fab to see some faces we recognised and also great to see some new people. As usual the atmosphere was electric and made even better by our friends from Newcastle Student Radio who supplied us with some funky tunes to boogie to. Thankfully the weather stayed dry although it was a a tiny bit cold but that didn’t stop us!Â

Harry, Kenton and Jordan brewed a batch of Lab Session for can, cask and keg on Sunday. Kenton and Jordan are our second pair of brewers who have nabbed a ‘Been There, Brewed It’ T-Shirt for completing a brew day.

Our Recipe Design meeting is on Tuesday at 5pm in the Buttery, as usual, this week. Thank you to the bunch who came along last week. It’s a great opportunity to make new beers and get to grips with experimenting what goes into recipes. Tom was busy making a stout last week. The current task for Recipe Design Club is Irish Red Ale, fancy getting involved?

We’ve got a couple more events lined up in the next few weeks. We’re heading down to the cider launch at the Town Mouse, more details here https://www.facebook.com/events/1607453702694625/, on Friday and then doing an Ouseburn bar crawl. Weekly Blog 9 (1/10/18): Welcome to Newcastle!

Hello!

We hope that you’ve had a really good Fresher’s Week, whether you’re a returning student or new to the university. As runners-up for Society of the Year 17/18 at Newcastle University we wanted to ensure that for Fresher’s week we properly showcased the society. We are so happy with the interest we’ve had into the society so far!

It was great to meet everyone at the Fresher’s Fair at the start of Fresher’s week. If you are interested in joining our society the link can be found here: https://www.nusu.co.uk/getinvolved/societies/society/7521/ and for only £10 you can get involved with something that really will be worthwhile. A membership will give you access to brew days. If you’re wondering “But I know nothing about how to brew!” don’t worry as you’ll be taught how the process works and given a step by step instruction on our brew days. It’s a great learning experience!

Last Tuesday we went for a Pizza and a Pint at Newcastle Tap. Thank you to everyone who came along. It was great to meet some fresh faces. It was a lot of fun! As well as this, we’ve had a lovely week with our bar on campus. Thank you to everyone who came and had a pint! Fresher’s Week was awesome – oh to be a fresher again….

On Sunday Chris, with the help of Keenan and Sumile, made Malliot Blanc for can. They were really enthusiastic and asked some brilliant questions. It was great to brew with you both! For those of who are keen to get further involved in brewing keep a close eye out as we’ll have lots of brew days coming up! Keep checking your emails if you’re a member.

Our Recipe design team are having their first meet up of the year on Tuesday 2nd October at 5pm in the Buttery in Merz Court. For any issues or further information you can email Tom on president@stubrew.com.

We’d like to congratulate James Milne, our ex Brewmaster and Sales who is now Brewery Assistant at Brewdog, it’s great to see Stu Brew graduates go out in industry. Here he is with Hugh, another Stu Brew graduate who is leaving his job at Brewdog to become Senior Brewer at Beavertown.

We’ve got two more events that are upcoming! The first is our Brewery Bash which is this Friday (October 6th) in the carpark of Merz Court. Come on down from 5pm. The atmosphere at these events is always amazing.

We’ve made some cider which we’re going to be launching on Friday 12th October at the Town Mouse. If you haven’t been to the Town Mouse yet, we definitely recommend a visit. It’s a warm pub with an amazing welcoming atmosphere. We’ve created a cider in collaboration with Tyneside & Northumberland CAMRA which is called Core Curriculum. Keep Friday 12th October free for this great event: it’s not one to be missed! Here’s a funky poster containing more information and keep an eye on our Facebook for more information.

That’s all from us for this week. Keep following our social media channels for updates.

Cheers
