Weekly Blog 3 (28/05/2018): Fresh out of Toon

Hope you’ve all had a lovely week and have enjoyed this wonderful sunny bank holiday!

On Thursday Harry and Dom, who are part of the Home Brew Club attempted to prototype a gluten free belgian blonde. Unfortunately issues with the gluten free millet meant that this prototype didn’t go quite to plan but as they say – practice makes perfect and there will be a final prototype soon.

As you might have seen on twitter Saturday saw the final brew on our current kit before it’s shipped off to a new home. They brewed Fresh in Toon which will soon be available in cask and Keg. Make sure you try it at our upcoming Brewery Bash! The guys also kegged Zest Tube making it now able to purchase in Keg.

As every avid follower of the Stu Brew social media universe will have already been aware of our big news this week was that we’re expanding! Since we started in 2013 we’ve had around 100 brews on our 2.5BBL kit and we’ve now managed to get funding to increase capacity to 6BBL.  On Sunday, Tom and Chris gave the old kit one final thorough clean down and packed the kit up ready to be transported to The Strathkinness Tavern in Fife. We hope they enjoy using the kit as much as we have.

Our new equipment is arriving next week and if all goes to plan we will debut our new set up for the first time at the Brewery Bash on the 8th of June. Add that to your list of reasons to attend!

Other things to look out for within the next fortnight include our End of Exams Bar on campus which starts from tomorrow. We’ll be outside the Newcastle University Students Union serving up some treats. As well as this we’re taking along some of our favourite beers to Olives at the Station’s Beer, Cider and Spirits Festival.  Finally, next week we have our Brewery Bash which is always a great night. We have our friends from Sghetti Monster serving up some lovely food too! Come down for a pint.

We hope you have a lovely week!

Cheers,

The Stu Brew Team
