Weekly Blog 17 26/11/2018: What’s brewing?

We’re back again for our weekly update!

On Saturday Harry and Jonah lent a hand and brewed Textbook IPA with Paulius. Members, if you fancy getting involved then keep an eye out on your emails. We’ll announce another brew day soon!

Our special news this week is that Heineken are on campus on Thursday! They’re going to be giving a presentation and host a Q&A with regards to their latest graduate schemes, 1) The Business Leadership Graduate Programme and The Brewery Operations Future Leaders Programme. These both are a great way to fulfil a career in the brewing industry. Let us know whether you’re going to come along by responding to our facebook event. After the talk the Stu Brew committee will be giving you the opportunity to give us direct feedback on the society this year in the form of a Q&A session. Here’s your chance to tell us what you think of how we’re doing. Is there anything we could do better? Do you have something you’d like to see us organise? We might even have a little surprise for those of you who stay for our Q&A in the form of a cold refreshment!

Here’s a few of the team… getting a full group picture proves rather hard when half of the committee are camera shy!

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Cheers!

Weekly Blog 15 12/11/2018: Events Galore

Hello everyone! It’s Monday again which means it’s time for our weekly blog!

Recipe Design Club were busy last Wednesday prototyping a Vienna Lager, we can’t wait to see the results once it has finished lagering. Remember if you want to get involved they meet every Tuesday at 5pm in the Buttery, Merz Court.

On Thursday Tom, Chris and Carey attended the Green Gown awards at the National Railway Museum in York. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with an award but we had a fantastic evening. It was an honour to even be nominated and we would like to congratulate Keele University for taking home the prize! Newcastle University didn’t go home empty handed as the Urban Science Building was crowned the winner of the Campus of The Future category. The emphasis on sustainability at the event was great and we were so lucky to have attended.

Following on from the Green Gown awards, we’d like to thank the lovely bunch that came along to our Brewery Bash on Friday. The team had a great time celebrating our 4th birthday! Our good friends The Sghetti Monster provided the pasta goods and we partied the night away with full tummies – thanks guys.

One half of our events co-ordination team, Rachel, sent an email this morning about the details for our upcoming tour to Brussels. We’ve had an amazing response and we are so excited! If you’ve paid your deposit you’re guaranteed a space. Get checking those emails!

An exciting event we have planned for this week is our beer launch at Pacific House! We’ve teamed up with Pacific House to make them a new house beer. There’s two options – a bitter and a blonde. Which one will get the permanent residency? You decide. There’ll be £2.35 pints and beer pong to keep you entertained all night. It’s also a great chance to come and have a pint with committee and the perfect chance to meet new friends. Hope to see you all there.

Have a great week.

Cheers!
