Weekly Blog 18 3/12/2018: What do you call a lion wearing a hat? A dandy lion…

Hello everyone.

Thanks to those of you who came along to the Heineken on Campus event. There was a brilliant turn out and we’d like to thank Heineken for coming along to give students an insight into the brewing industry!

This week we have some exciting news. We’ve made Non Linear Regression and Maillot Blanc (Saison) available in can form! You can pick these up from CentrAle in Newcastle Central Station, Coppers at Gosforth or by messaging Harry and Lucy at sales@stubrew.com. We’ve also had the privilege of brewing a Berliner Weisse in collaboration with Rob from Two by Two Brewing. Keep an eye out for our latest collab brew which should be ready in the next two weeks!

On Tuesday Harry, Tom and Carey had a great night at the PwC Opportunity Challenge Quiz at Tyneside Cinema. It was a great opportunity to meet other societies from Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Speaking of pub quizzes, we’ve got a great event lined up next week. We love quizzing here at Stu Brew and we’ve organised a pub quiz at Errant Brewery. You don’t need to be a member to attend and you can find out more details by checking out our facebook event.

We’ve had a delivery of some merchandise! Just in time for Christmas and the colder weather, we’ve received a first batch of some beanies with our own lovely lion on the logo. Carey and Liam could not WAIT to show you these. To pick these up you can pop along to the Student’s Union Shop. These would make a great Christmas present or simply a great addition to your A/W 2018 winter wardrobe.

We hope you have a great week.

Cheers!

Weekly Blog 17 26/11/2018: What’s brewing?

We’re back again for our weekly update!

On Saturday Harry and Jonah lent a hand and brewed Textbook IPA with Paulius. Members, if you fancy getting involved then keep an eye out on your emails. We’ll announce another brew day soon!

Our special news this week is that Heineken are on campus on Thursday! They’re going to be giving a presentation and host a Q&A with regards to their latest graduate schemes, 1) The Business Leadership Graduate Programme and The Brewery Operations Future Leaders Programme. These both are a great way to fulfil a career in the brewing industry. Let us know whether you’re going to come along by responding to our facebook event. After the talk the Stu Brew committee will be giving you the opportunity to give us direct feedback on the society this year in the form of a Q&A session. Here’s your chance to tell us what you think of how we’re doing. Is there anything we could do better? Do you have something you’d like to see us organise? We might even have a little surprise for those of you who stay for our Q&A in the form of a cold refreshment!

Here’s a few of the team… getting a full group picture proves rather hard when half of the committee are camera shy!

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Cheers!

Weekly Blog 15 12/11/2018: Events Galore

Hello everyone! It’s Monday again which means it’s time for our weekly blog!

Recipe Design Club were busy last Wednesday prototyping a Vienna Lager, we can’t wait to see the results once it has finished lagering. Remember if you want to get involved they meet every Tuesday at 5pm in the Buttery, Merz Court.

On Thursday Tom, Chris and Carey attended the Green Gown awards at the National Railway Museum in York. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with an award but we had a fantastic evening. It was an honour to even be nominated and we would like to congratulate Keele University for taking home the prize! Newcastle University didn’t go home empty handed as the Urban Science Building was crowned the winner of the Campus of The Future category. The emphasis on sustainability at the event was great and we were so lucky to have attended.

Following on from the Green Gown awards, we’d like to thank the lovely bunch that came along to our Brewery Bash on Friday. The team had a great time celebrating our 4th birthday! Our good friends The Sghetti Monster provided the pasta goods and we partied the night away with full tummies – thanks guys.

One half of our events co-ordination team, Rachel, sent an email this morning about the details for our upcoming tour to Brussels. We’ve had an amazing response and we are so excited! If you’ve paid your deposit you’re guaranteed a space. Get checking those emails!

An exciting event we have planned for this week is our beer launch at Pacific House! We’ve teamed up with Pacific House to make them a new house beer. There’s two options – a bitter and a blonde. Which one will get the permanent residency? You decide. There’ll be £2.35 pints and beer pong to keep you entertained all night. It’s also a great chance to come and have a pint with committee and the perfect chance to meet new friends. Hope to see you all there.

Have a great week.

Cheers!

Weekly Blog 12

Hello!

This weekend we’ve been busy brewing two beers for Pacific House. On Saturday, Paul, Dom and Kacper were brewing a house bitter for them – sadly not all brews go to plan so we’ll be busy brewing it again this Wednesday. Harry, Charlie and Jeanette had a more successful day on Sunday brewing the Pacific House Blonde. Both beers will be launching soon at Pacific House. Here’s them below with their lovely new t-shirts… Recipe design club have also been busy this week making two different Irish Red Ale prototypes – we can’t wait to try them!

The highlight of the week has to be our trip to Craft Beer Calling (which was AMAZING) on Thursday night. The committee went along and everyone was thrilled by the atmosphere. One highlight was the German beer chalet with it’s roaring log fires. It was definitely a night to remember.

Our cans have arrived! We are so excited about them. We’re going to be launching them at CentrAle between 3:30 & 6:30 this Friday. Centrale is tucked away in the train station but is a great bottle shop! We’ve also just sent off Malliot Blanc and our new ‘Non-Linear Regression’ off to can this week. Hopefully you’ll be able to get your hands on them mid to late November.

That’s all for this week!

Cheers,

Hello!

We hope you enjoyed our Brewery Bash on Friday. A lot of you came down and it was fab to see some faces we recognised and also great to see some new people. Thankfully the weather stayed dry although it was a a tiny bit cold but that didn’t stop us!

Harry, Kenton and Jordan brewed a batch of Lab Session for can, cask and keg on Sunday. Kenton and Jordan are our second pair of brewers who have nabbed a ‘Been There, Brewed It’ T-Shirt for completing a brew day.
