A collaboration with Box Social Brewing. The idea of this beer was to get banana into the process wherever we could. Dried banana flakes in the mash, liquid nitrogen bananas in the conditioning step, banana syrup to prime the cask and most importantly banana esters from the yeast strain. We wrapped all of this together with chocolate powder and lactose to give all the flavours you’d find in a classic banana split.
Breakfast Juice Pale was our first ever collaboration beer, brewed with Andy from Northern Alchemy. We used the Juice of over 200 grapefruits, oranges and lemons to give a real citrus kick and used the skin of the grapefruit to balance give the beer its bitterness.
A collaboration with local beer aficionado @thealetrail. A super fresh New England IPA bursting with Mosaic, Simcoe & Citra hops and brewed to welcome our new students. One special cask of this beer was also made which has been dry hopped in the cask with Nelson Sauvin.
This special edition of our Lab Session beer was a collaboration with Scottish Bioenergy to produce a Limited Edition Green Beer for St Patrick’s Day 2017. By adding a natural blue colourant extracted from algae known as Phycocyanin we were able to create a vivid green beer. Phycocyanin is a powerful antioxidant and the initial research into its production technique was originally conducted at our home, Newcastle University.
